About: Fortunate Son is a Napa Valley wine project, produced by prominent winemaker Jayson Woodbridge of Hundred Acre. The prestigious portfolio of Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines showcases some of the best of Napa's small, family-owned vineyards.

Fortunate Son is an eponymic of the single from the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. For six years from 2006, the project was produced by Woodbridge alongside two friends, William Kimble and Chris Radomski; however the revival from 2018 has been a solo effort. The relaunch of the brand has achieved cult-like status after numerous 100-point scores from the Wine Advocate's Robert Parker.

The portfolio is a collection of dark, elegant, and brooding reds that are designed for extensive cellaring. The Warrior and the Dreamer are 100-percent Cabernet Sauvignon, with the former from a single vineyard, whilst the latter sourced from different plots throughout the valley, some of which are up to 90 years of age. The Diplomat combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a small portion of Petite Syrah.

Upon release, Fortunate Son is allocated to a mailing list only of which the wait to get on is rumored to be about five years long. Production now takes place at the historic David Fulton in St. Helena with all fermentation in new 500-liter French oak barrels. The wines are kept on lees for at least 24 months before bottling.

The brand is an artistic creation that embraces dark, brooding visuals and a masculine narrative to each wine; the Diplomat combines 'power, intricacy and elegance' whilst the Warrior 'is for those with a will of steel and determination'. Finally, the Dreamer is the 'wine equivalent of a Wagner piece on a stormy night after making an enormous sum of money'.

The vineyard management regime includes supplementing the soil with a special mushroom compost for nutrients and moisture retention. Throughout the summer months, a micro-misting system, as well as shade cloth, are utilized to slow UV absorption and allow the grapes to develop complex flavor compounds. The grapes are all hand-picked and meticulously sorted before fermentation.
