The 2020 les Clos from the Moreau family is an excellent wine in the making. The nose is deep, pure and nascently complex, delivering scents of pear, apple, flinty, chalky soil tones, beeswax, a nice touch of vanillin oak and a topnote of lime blossoms. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, poised and rock solid at the core, with superb mineral drive and focus, bright, snappy acids, laser-like focus and a very, very long, very precise finish. All this beautiful example of les Clos will need is time in the cellar to start hitting on all cylinders. (Drink between 2030-2070) (11/2021)

Christian and Fabien own an enviable three hectares that extend two-thirds of the way up the slope. This 2020 is almost cozy with concentrated extract at the core. This generous body is smartly lifted by vivid acidity. The flavors range from citrus and star fruit to roasted hazelnuts and a hint of smoke. 2024-40. (CC) (1/2023)

The regular Clos gave a better yield than the Hospices. Classy bouquet, as ever on the understated side. On the palate the quality shows, a little bit yellower than sometimes but neither exuberant nor heated. Very persistent, as indeed a Clos should be. (6/2021)

Slightly more apparent wood (though still nicely subtle) is present on the overtly floral-suffused nose where notes of lemongrass, mineral reduction and iodine add breadth. There is impressive volume to the powerful and delineated yet reasonably refined larger-scaled flavors that where the texture is akin to sucking on tiny rocks. The balanced bone-dry finish is refreshingly crisp in no small part thanks to the citrus-tinged acidity. Note that the abundant dry extract should allow this to be approachable after only 3 to 4 years if desired. (10/2022)

The 2020 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a tightly-wound bouquet that needs coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing wet pavement, fern, flint and light citrus scents. The palate is taut, fresh and well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity; the 2020 gains weight towards the finish with a long, lightly spiced aftertaste that urges you back for another sip. Great potential. (NM) (9/2022)

A rich, almost opulent style, this white delivers melon, apple, lemon cake and lanolin aromas and flavors backed by a lively structure. Ends with lingering notes of seashore and stone, along with a tactile sensation. Best from 2024 through 2033. (10/2022)
