Clos La Néore is located in the Sancerre region in the Loire Valley. This very small estate is known for its single vintage of Sauvignon Blanc which has a reputation for being able to age easily for two decades or more. Its founder, Edmond Vatan, retired from full-time winemaking in the early 2000s. His daughter Anne Vatan-Foucault has been in charge of winemaking and administration since 2008.
The Sancerre Blanc Clos la Néore comes from a one-hectare plot of the famous Mont Damnés vineyard in Chavignol, on steep slopes with great exposure to the sun. The vines are pruned severely to limit yields and maximize quality. Harvests tend to begin after those of neighboring estates have finished. The wines are made using very traditional methods in old neutral oak barrels , with a single racking, and are bottled without fining or filtration. Since the 2018 vintage, Clos La Néore is only available in magnum format .
