The story of Jean-Marc Sélèque's Champagne house began in 1925. At the time, his grandfather Henri left Poland for France. He settled in the small village of Pierry, south of Épernay, where he bought a farm with his wife Françoise Bagnost. It was Jean Bagnot, his wife's father (and also a Champagne winemaker by profession) who advised Henri to invest in the local vineyard during the 1960s. Together, they began to produce and sell their first wines .
Richard Sélèque, the son of Henri and Françoise, began helping his parents at the wine estate in 1974. Having recently graduated in oenology, he embarked on a business to modernize the methods and tools used by the couple . He and his father also acquired additional plots of land, both in the Marne Valley and on the Côte des Blancs . Richard demonstrated formidable technical skills, which allowed him to develop the Sélèque name in order to elevate it to the rank of a prestigious brand.
Since 2008, Jean-Marc has joined the Champagne house. This young man who learned his trade in Napa Valley seeks to use the foundations set up by Richard, while anchoring winemaking practices in a sustainable approach . He is convinced that the vineyard and all the biodiversity that surrounds it must be protected. Thus, the young winemaker's champagnes are of breathtaking aromatic complexity and impressive mastery. The Bettane & Desseauve Guide has also named Jean-Marc one of the "discoveries of the year 2019".
Jean-Marc has an almost artisanal vision of wine, which advocates accuracy and authenticity above all . Today, he manages 9 hectares of vineyard planted on clay and chalk soil, or 45 different plots located in 7 communes. 3 plots are classified as premier cru. 50% of the production comes from Chardonnay , the rest being Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir .
