Descendients de Jose Palacios was founded in 1999 in Bierzo, Spain. Named after the paternal grandparent of the current winemaker, Ricardo Perez, the estate began as a farm and has blossomed into one of Bierzo’s top wineries. Each grape is hand harvested from 40 to 90 year old vines. ‘Petalos’ is 100% Mencia and is actually produced from over 300 plots taken care of by their own special team. This carefully produced wine spends a few weeks in French oak barrels before aging for 6 to 10 months in passage barrels. You will find notes of blackberry, plum, oak, tobacco, and ripe tannins, making this perfect to pair with mushroom risotto.
