This 2018 from the sandy soils of Les Poyeux presents a beautifully perfumed character on the nose, with smoky cigar notes intertwined with a light reduction. A charming evolution is already evident on the palate, which wraps up notes of blackcurrant with cigar, toast, liquorice, spiced pepper and tar. A pristine sense of balance here, the middle broad-shouldered by finely poised with drive and acid freshness, the firm structure nicely embedded in the substance of the wine. Peppery spice and tannin in the finish mean this has plenty of potential yet, as does the long finish, and will be a great addition to any cellar.
