The generous and herbal nose of the 2018 Riesling Grand Cru Geisberg is very clear, intense, concentrated and saline. On the palate, this is a rich and powerful, fleshy and almost viscous Geisberg, with fine tannins and rather smooth acidity and 14.5% stated alcohol. It's naturally long and powerful and accessible earlier than the 2019. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024 and again on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Clos Ste Hune at the beginning of November, with the same result, but this note: The 2018 Geisberg Riesling is deep, very intense and aromatic on the nose that represents the very dry and warm vintage. Full-bodied, rich and very powerful on the palate, this is a massive and muscular, luckily also saline-finishing Riesling that is still a bit edgy and will still need years to refine and gain in finesse. It is doubtlessly a complex and potential wine. We published reviews of 18 vintages of the iconic Riesling Clos Sainte Hune in one of the last issues, including the latest from 2019, which has been cultivated in the grand cru Rosacker for 100 years. Beyond that, and as always, I tasted a pretty wide range from vintages here in spring and in late autumn last year. All the crus, whether grand cru or not, are of superb quality. The 2020 Gewürztraminer Muehlforst is a Best Buy; the 2020 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Osterberg is one of the finest Pinot Gris I tasted in Alsace last year; and the Riesling cuvée Frédéric Emile, no matter if the 2018 or 2019,(SR)
